Review on Keystone KSTAD70C Portable Dehumidifier 12 8 Pint by Geoff Foster

Leave it in a box in our apartment overnight so that the coolant can settle and the parts warm up (electronics that were left in the cold when delivered should not start). Well, when I ran it today for the first 24 hours of continuous use as the manual states, it made a loud, high-frequency hum that drowned out the fan noise (which is fine as white noise). Not sure if this is normal. My mother in law sent me a video clip of her dehumidifier (different model/brand) and it doesn't make that hum. I'll call Keystone tomorrow to see if it's defective or if I need to return it. Other owners please let me know if this is similar to yours. It's so loud my cats won't go near it and I can hear it two rooms away (just a hum, no fan noise). Otherwise it's definitely pulling water out of the air - the humidity is about 5% lower than my room humidistat - but the horrible crunch/hum has me worried it'll die/arrive broken. In addition, if you place your hand on the top, you will feel a slight vibration. Whether it was on the carpet or the kitchen floor, the buzz was relentless during the sustained phase. The only time it doesn't hum is after you turn it off and on again, for 3 minutes the compressor won't turn on for safety reasons (during that short time it doesn't hum). I followed the instructions in the manual and checked that nothing was accidentally stored in the water bucket or elsewhere. Reinstalled the filter (brand new and clean) and bucket several times, carefully moved the unit (unplugged and off) to different tiers if it was where it was. I may have to return this unit as the hum is loud enough to hear in other parts of the apartment and finally the high pitch gives me a headache and is definitely too loud to sleep in the same room.
