I live in Arizona, USA and am having a hot summer. The high today (06/17/2019) should be 104Β°F/40Β°C. When we realized a few months ago that our heat pump was only supposed to be pumping heat in and not out, we briefly panicked and then called a company that offered $40 diagnostics. During the diagnostic process, the technician actually got the air conditioner to cool the house, but soon reversed everything and provided an estimate for replacing our entire system. 7500 dollars. My wife told him we needed to think about it and paid for the diagnostics which she showed me when I got home. I found in diagnostics that he "manually reversed the reversing valve" and that caused our air conditioning to work temporarily. I did a little research and talked to a friend who works with HVAC and came up with the idea of using this solenoid valve to manually reverse my reversing valve (by removing and reinserting the coil). And since then the house cools perfectly. Eventually I'll have to replace that air conditioner (heat pump) - nothing lasts forever, but I've saved a few pennies so far. I gave it four stars because the build quality doesn't seem to be particularly durable. I would give 4.5 stars if that was an option. Update: July 5, 2020 and this still works.
