Tmax 400 is one of the most technologically advanced black and white negative films available today. The speed is very slow for 400 film. Graininess is minimal and unobtrusive, especially on 120 and larger formats. Mutual rejection exists but is minimal compared to similar films. It can capture detail in a variety of lighting even in the same scene. Careful processing is required to maintain optimal contrast. Fairly sensitive to length and temperature of development. In comparison, the Delta 400, HP5+ and Tri-X offer a bit more design freedom. I received 1 star due to Kodak's quality control over the past few years. Kodak encountered an issue where the ink on the backing paper was bleeding through the image. Although this is reportedly fixed, some people claim that this is still an issue. I haven't experienced this myself, but it made me suspicious of this product and other Kodak black and white films. I don't want important images to be corrupted by something beyond my control. I hope to use this film again in 120 in the future and will have no hesitation in using it in 35mm and 4x5 if the situation calls for it.
