The best prime lens for a6xxx!

Just received this lens as an upgrade from the standard 18-50mm kit on my a6000 and am very impressed so far. I found this to be a good general purpose prime lens that also allows me to shoot smooth, steady video. The goal is for this lens to live in front of the camera 90% of the time. The 24mm focal length is perfect for this purpose and is wide enough to shoot selfie videos for adventure videos as well as great photos. Pros: + I really like the fast f1.8 aperture and find it massive. an upgrade from the kit lens with a maximum of f3.5. This gave me an appetizingly shallow depth of field with decent front and rear bokeh (more on that later) and excellent low-light capabilities. I am really looking forward to trying my hand at astrophotography with this lens. + Manual and auto focus is sharp, precise and lightning fast. + Did I mention that this lens is sharp? Seriously, be careful not to cut yourself. I didn't notice any chromatic aberrations or distortions either, but I've only had them for a few days so remains to be seen. Coatings and optics from Zeiss are worth their money. + This lens belongs to the Zeiss Sonnar line, a lighter line of lenses. Coatings and optics from Zeiss are worth their money. This provides a perfectly balanced setup with the a6xxx series, making it comfortable to carry and shoot. For me that is a big advantage. The whole point of an Aps-C mirrorless setup, in my opinion, is to have a compact professional kit that you can take anywhere. Of course, a large DSLR can take a better picture, but not at home or in the car. This combination of a Sony camera and a Zeiss lens is quick and easy to set up and usually takes the picture. That's fine, but it doesn't produce the perfectly round bokeh that some people want. Personally, I'm still impressed with it, but that's just me. My next lens will be a 9x11 macro aperture blade. There is no OSS in this lens so owners of the a6000 and below will need a steady hand and a faster shutter speed. I've personally received the a6500 in the mail as we speak, but even with the a6000 I get great, sharp photos with little motion blur thanks to the maximum aperture of this lens. So no zoom. Most of you should know this and for me it's an advantage because of the superior optics, but be aware you're stuck at 24mm.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Some little things
