Computer can't find the reader most of the time

I bought this unit to replace my CF reader and SD reader with one to save space and cables. The computer can't find the reader most of the time, and when it does, the video plays jerkily! I'm having the same problems with another computer, so the product must be faulty. The cable to the device seems to have a lot of slack, which I find strange. I will return this block
