Nice pedal for commuting but only works with some boots

I have these on my city hybrid bike and they have been great so far. I usually only ride in sneakers or hiking boots. They're light, easy to turn, and look great on the bike. My foot doesn't slip even when wet, but they aren't as aggressive as the MTB platform pedals. My only negative comment is that they don't match my Tommaso Roma cycling shoes which go great with all my other Shimano shoes. PD-M530 pedals and SPD spike. The problem is that the front end of the SPD locking mechanism on Venzo pedals is made quite thick as opposed to real Shimano pedals where it is thinner and narrower. So they are not really 100% Shimano SPD compatible. For some reason the leading edge of the cleat is very close to the rigid sole plate of the Tommaso shoe. I tried another brand of shoes and the Venzo SPD pedal lock worked well then. I did not find any interference with the Venzo from the fully recessed cleats like the Tommaso shoes versus the only partially recessed cleats. Seems like I'll need a different shoe for commuting than other road and mountain bike boots, or I'll have to push the tip higher. I tried the small spacers that came with the Venzo pedals but it wasn't enough.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
