Provides a smooth ride

I have nothing to add to other glowing reviews. If the shocks and vibrations bother you, this stem is perfect for reassuring you. It's not soft at all and it's not porous. Actually. it's kind of subtle. The road stays the same, it just has fewer sharp edges. The stem comes with elastomers pre-installed for a lightweight individual using drop bars. I'm a heavy person using flat bars so I had to go in there and remove one of the elastomers. One thing I do want to mention is that the instructions make a lot of noise about how you need to install and lay down the stem. Apply pressure to it when threading in the preload wedge screw or you may strip the captive screw and destroy the stem. I was really hesitant because when it arrived I could barely move the stem with all my weight. What I didn't realize at first was that there was no problem with *unscrewing*. Wedge. Once it's unthreaded and your choice of elastomers installed, it's *easy* to apply downward pressure to the neck when first threading in the preload wedge bolt. In other words, don't worry about changing the elastomer. When you screw it back in it will be obvious that you have to bend the neck a bit to get the screw in straight and putting that kink in the neck is easy. It's not until it's almost fully twisted that it becomes too tight to be bent by hand much. As for on-road handling, with the elastomers preinstalled and my flat bars, I had a hard time noticing the difference. It wasn't until I opened it up and installed the elastomers according to the chart provided by Redshift that I really noticed a difference. I've ridden it 20 miles so far so it might open up even more as the elastomers settle. Now I'm very glad I installed it. The road rumble you get off these roads can be brutal after an hour or two of driving, and this thing makes the whole drive smoother and more fun.
