Review on 🆒 Whynter Eco-Friendly ARC-110WD Portable Air Conditioner - 11,000 BTU Dual Hose for Maximum Efficiency in Multi-purpose Use by Becky Stewart

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Perhaps suitable for a room of 200 square meters. m in a well-insulated shaded building.

Used the unit for the first time yesterday by venting the two French door side light panels removed and modifying the brackets supplied to attach to a piece of plywood with holes cut out and on the area from to place The discs removed The situation is a small rented cottage in the eastern suburbs of San Francisco, Contra Costa County, a very sunny location with low humidity. Not as hot as the inner valley (Bakersfield to Sacramento) but just a little bit at times, and yesterday was one of those days when at 4pm the temperature hit 108C. A great day trying this out, see what it can do and get the most cryptic result and I have no idea what to do with it. The corners were cut when the house was built and there is very little if any insulation in the area. in the walls, high vaulted ceiling in the main house, large room (kitchen/living room combo), possibly no or very little insulation between ceiling and roof, all windows are single glazed, a few with metal frames, and the place is sunlit all day the sun crushes and heats up strongly and quickly from 14:00. The attic is a third of the room width and I just installed a gable air intake and roof vent (previously it had no ventilation at all) and now it has insulation on the attics/ceiling beams as well. cottage for the first time in my life. The vents themselves had a huge impact on the bedroom (there's a loft upstairs) so I was expecting the insulation to give an extra boost, but I don't know and maybe it's just keeping the bedroom warm now. I shot a block for the first time yesterday at 1:10 p.m. Then it was 85° inside, about 100° outside and climbing. I was hoping I could keep that temp at 350 SF in the large room, maybe drop it a few degrees, but there was no chance. The internal temperature gradually increased to 90° over the next 3.5 hours and was maintained at this level, while the external temperature reached a maximum of 108°. It's very hot here, unusual for this place, and the cottage didn't get unbearable, so I took it as a win and waited to see what would happen when the outside temperature dropped and the sun stopped hitting the roof and blocking the sun from entering through the glass back door on the west side, but nothing happened. Although the outside temperature had dropped by 18° at 7.30pm and the sun was no longer beating the roof, the inside temperature stayed at 90° for about 15 minutes before I switched off the unit at 8.10am when the temperature dropped to 89°. First time the temperature has dropped since I turned it on. All this time, the plant worked at full capacity for up to 7 hours, consuming 8.2 kW of electricity during this time. It never got to the set temperature so there were no cycles. The compressor was on all the time. But it was SUPER hot outside, so I refrained from forming an opinion. Waking up in the cabin at 75C this morning at 6:30am I decided to see if the air conditioning could bring the temperature down in the now favorable morning conditions. Outdoors Low-Mid 60s. Almost no cooling here either. After an hour of operation, the temperature only dropped 1° to 74° after 20 minutes of operation (may have been about to drop anyway as it was the coolest time of the day outside). During the next 40 minutes of use, the room temperature did not change and chilled air was definitely coming out. REALLY confusing. I don't understand how it could stay at 90 degrees indoors yesterday when the sun scorched the roof and outside air at 108 degrees, but then stayed at 90 degrees after those two factors had dropped sharply and then neither. . can cool the room almost completely on chilly mornings when cold air is already being drawn into the inlet hose. This afternoon as I write this he is fighting another losing battle with the unit running at full power again (set to 78°). ) and the temperature has increased by 3° to 87° since switching on 130 minutes ago. It's 8-10° cooler outside today, but still sunny, and inside temperatures are approaching or near the same final number of 90°. A challenging cabin is too steep a hill for this unit, but my experience with every air conditioner I've used to date is that it cools rooms and cars, even non-insulated ones. Cooling only lasts while the device is running, but while it's running it seems cooler. This simply holds back (or held back) the most intense heat (without it it would probably have been around 100° or more here yesterday). I don't know why and how he manages to do this, since he can hardly cool the room at all with less heat and no sun, but he seemed to hold back the animal heat, and no more (it was 96 ° C in the hut). the day before on a cooler day). He is unable to produce a comfortable temperature in this structure, or even lower it at all, even on a chilly morning before the sun rises, and just to do what he did he had to work constantly and at it consume a lot of energy. spend lots of dollars and a tax on house wiring and compressor. I don't think the compressor, the coolant, or the wiring will last that long. Can be a fire hazard. NOTES: The exhaust hose coming out of the back of the unit is very hot, hot and giving off a significant amount of heat. Needs warming. The sound/noise is acceptable, the remote control works properly, the device is quite nice. I think this unit can perform acceptably for a very well insulated room of no more than 200 sf in an at least partially shaded building, well shaded is better. would have to open all windows and doors and run 7 fans to cool the room after sunset and I think this unit will just die under the burden of cooling the room between 2pm and 8pm for too long (and not being able to make it), running constantly as necessary. Unfortunately not the expected result.
