We were looking for a design partner who could help us transform our business into something that was visually appealing and gave people the impression that they could trust us.

We were looking for a design partner who could help us transform our business into something that was visually appealing and gave people the impression that they could trust us.  We had previously hired an agency to do the job, but they did nothing to solve the problem.  It turned out that they were actually part of the problem.  They took our money, did nothing, and left us high and dry.
We ended up going back to square one and decided to try our own hand at it.  Our new creative director brought us back to reality by saying that if we didn’t want to do it ourselves, then no one else would either.  She helped us define exactly what we needed to get done and helped us determine how much it would cost.  We broke down our goals and made them specific.  Then we went about making it happen.  With each step of the way, we got feedback from our creative director, so that we could make adjustments along the way.  Finally, we were able to complete our goal within our budget and at a reasonable price.  Now, we have a beautifully designed website that gives people a reason to trust us.

Pros

When you start this type of project, there is always an issue or two that arises, so it is nice to be able to deal with things as they come up rather than having to worry about everything at once.
As time goes by, you learn what works and doesn't work, so the process becomes a bit easier and smoother.
Since you are dealing with your business, it is very easy to make mistakes when trying to do a project like this, but you will always be aware of these issues.
