I'm starting to realize that vinyl dusting solutions aren't universal and need to be stacked to be used together. If you had told me a year ago that I would buy $15 or $20 record cleaning tools that looked like what you buy at the dollar store, I would have called you crazy. But here I am rolling a $15 lint brush over the vinyl. I have previously bought a record cleaning brush which basically pushed the dust out of the grooves (to an extent) and removed it from the record. only to leave a linear streak of dust, which was then charged with an electromagnetic field and difficult to remove from the record. This was unacceptable as it only leveled the dust compared to removing it from the surface. Enter the vinyl roller. That thing doesn't get the dust out of the grooves of a record as well as a brush. So I use my $20 brush to scrub the record a few times and then quickly go over the dust line with the $15 record roller. Quite a complicated process, quite expensive, but I don't think either tool will work well on its own. If I had to choose one, I'd say the burn roller would be my pick, not the brush. I'm a little concerned that there will be sticky spots on the surface which will then attract more dust (sticky dust this time!) or worse, leave some sticky goo on the record. I'm sure after using it on a record it will attract more dust and paper dust than if I hadn't. I'm not sure if it's due to sticky patches or electro-magnetic charging. It's amazing how much even new vinyl records will attract paper dust or dust particles from the air, resulting in horrific pops and crackles, especially with a delicate stylus. how well it works. After 2-4 shots, I see dust on the entire surface of the take-up roll and it doesn't become sticky. At this point I run it under warm water and flip it once or twice. After a few minutes it will become sticky again. Why did I buy this one and others didn't? It includes a plastic case. Maybe others do too. but this one specifically mentions the case and trust me. Case is a must with it! Generally, this item (if used for any purpose other than cleaning records) will cost $1-2 at a toy store or dollar store. It's cheap Chinese plastic and nothing more. Since audiophiles who spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on gear are of a different race, they can easily be billed $15 for it. Do you need it? Something like . You wish you hadn't. for trust! As already mentioned, this alone will not remove fingerprints, dirt or dust from the inner grooves of the records. It removes the top layer of dust or paper particles and eliminates crackles or crackles. I think this is the best tool you can buy for cleaning records for under $20, but it won't do nearly everything you need to get your vinyl clean.
