I got this to protect my small dog's neck from being attacked. He tends to start fights with larger dogs and the last time he did that his carotid artery was punctured and he almost died. This collar is very thick and the spikes provide protection without hurting the other animal. Since he's the instigator, I don't need a collar with sharp spikes that could hurt another dog. It fills the bill. I wish the company would make them a little smaller. It's a bit big for my 20 lb Cockapoo. I tried to make an extra hole and had to trim the sides to get the tongue through the metal loops. I had to use a very sharp knife and a lot of muscle to cut through the skin and punch a hole. This is a hard collar. The collar is still a bit big, but for now it does the job of protecting my little fighter from himself. I will order a smaller collar from another company and hope for the same thickness. The dog looks quite cute in his stiff boyish collar and laughs every time he sees him.
