The battery compartment is one of those ones where you have to slide one tab aside and then pull out the other tab. Really hard to do. Battery connected and it worked the first time. BUT. It can be eight inches thick, two inches wide, and three inches high. It came in a box three inches high, six inches wide and 8 inches long, with no spacers. The remote control could jump freely from side to side without protection. I was very surprised that it worked. It could have been sent in a padded envelope with a lot less waste. But it worked.
