I've been eyeing the Bell Super 3 MIPS for a while after reading some positive professional reviews and through some research I found that it doesn't have a trigger rating despite having a similar detachable circular face mask. As you can imagine, this defeats the purpose of a face mask. While I would have liked a few additional color options, something like Bell Sixer and Super 3 (camouflage and orange please?!), I went with red for better visibility, especially for towing our little one in the trailer. Next door. It goes without saying that the convertible helmet is great for its utility. For example, put on a half shell for more relaxed riding or bike parks and attach a face mask for more demanding rides. I tell my kids this is my "fast" mountain bike mask. Half fit perfectly. Plenty of padding for those who shave their heads. No hard plastic that sticks in my scalp or throat with a locking mechanism like I've had with some other brands' models (see Giro Chronicle). This was one of my main concerns with MIPS helmets. Bike helmet padding is usually reserved for people with hair. Besides the fact that MIPS pins stick in my scalp on various helmets (soft rubber, but still), there is also the problem of the traditional MIPS liner, which is a thin plastic shell with lots of "cuts" or open areas to allow airflow. When it's in direct contact with the skin and potentially cutting the skin on impact for those of us who shave our heads. The Bell helmet addresses this in several ways. First, the MIPS is actually integrated into the helmet with an internal "webbing" that wraps around the head and connects via MIPS pins that connect it to the helmet. See their product material for a better explanation. This eliminates the separate, often yellow, MIPS inserts that can be a problem with head razors (inadequate or poorly placed gasket). Second, even if the helmet had a traditional MIPS liner, the padding of the helmet is so thick that contact between the scalp and that liner would be minimal. exceeds the basic bike helmet certifications you see for everyday helmets. It can withstand heavier impacts, has MIPS built in, looks great, has a large articulating goggle visor, and protects your face when you need it! face mask. I have already switched to the thinner pads that come with the helmet and they still feel a little tight. I'm hoping the pads will shrink a little and become more comfortable over time, but if you hear Bell, consider a third set of helmet pads for those of us who have large watermelons, cheekbones/jaws, etc., perhaps specifically for helmet size Large/XL. Also, I really like this helmet!
