Review on Akebono ACT1347 Rear Brake Pad: Premium-Quality Grey Brake Pad for Enhanced Performance by Nick Shirodkar

Bilateral Brake Pad

I bought this brake pad together with a companion for the front axle: ACT1346 AKEBONO. I drive a 2015 370z Sport and as the brakes originally come with AKEBONO I went with these pads. This particular product (rear brake pads) squeaks annoyingly loud. At first I thought it was because I hadn't run them in, but after a few hundred miles it only got worse. The squeak occurs when driving below 10 km/h while braking very gently and evenly. If you don't agree with that loud noise every time you drive, pull out of a parking lot, get stuck in traffic, pull out of your house, etc. I don't recommend this to you. Although they are excellent quality brakes (stopping power) and don't damage your rotors in any way more than regular squeak-free brakes, they are LOUD. My AKEBONO front brake pads didn't squeak at all, so I just replaced the rear brakes (this item) with Autozone's DURALAST GOLD (not the best quality, but no noise). I also did a lot of things to get rid of the squeaking from the back of the AKEBONO. I've tried applying brake lube and caliper lube around all metal to metal contact points (with caliper), sanding down all 90 degree corners and spinning my rear rotors. I would say that the rear brakes are not that important to the 370z's overall stopping power (when moving forward) because the front rotors are used more. However, reversing puts more stress on the rear brakes (that's why AKEBONO's rear wheel squeal was more noticeable when reversing). So I wouldn't worry too much about the quality of the rear pads. As long as the fronts are ok it should work. Don't install heavy-duty track brakes in the front and then regular thermoset brakes in the rear! It would not be good.
