I bought this unit to connect a Canon T7 DSLR directly to my MacBook Air. I couldn't use it right away because I didn't know the port on my camera is mini HDMI, so I had to buy an adapter. Guilty. I should have checked first. Of course, my Mac doesn't have USB-C ports either, so I needed adapters on both ends, but despite all those connections, it worked just fine. I was able to record videos straight from the camera, making them much better quality than using the laptop's built-in webcam. No drivers are required, they simply show up as a "USB Video" option in Quicktime. It did exactly what I needed and I'm happy with the quality given the low price.
