Review on Kidde KN-COPE-IC Hardwired AC Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Battery Backup by Darius Carraway

what's not to like? so I bought 6 in Feb 2014

Useless junk. I'm rarely asked to write a review on the many things I buy on Amazon, but this one "deserves" it. Trust the 1 star reviews and don't make my mistake. I was thinking of a photoelectric combo carbon monoxide/smoke/fire alarm, what's not to like? So I bought 6 in February 2014. Mid November a false alarm 3 nights in a row (and one day but of course 3 nights from 2am to 4am). nothing like desperate attempts to silence the system and having no idea how to do it because it's not stuck in useless instructions. I eventually identified the flashing red as a false alarm, pulled it out of the ceiling and removed the battery and that eventually stopped it. Thanks for not giving that advice, Kidde. I just figured I could hold down the power button to turn off the system, but not on a fire alarm! Against my better judgment, given the irreversible cost, I ordered another replacement and hoped that would fix the problem. This morning (December 2nd) instead, after several weeks of silence, a false alarm went off upstairs. These units are full of SH-you-know-what. If you wake up at 3am trying to track down a broken alarm clock, grab a chair, rip it out of the cover and remove the battery - your idea of fun, by all means buy this model. Otherwise run away. I don't know if it's due to poorly designed circuitry in the detector roast or something (the internet is full of rumours). I know I've fallen into this trap twice, and I'm sick of paying $45 a piece for more mistakes in the future.

Pros
  • AC cord with battery fuse, 9V battery included protects against momentary blackouts
Cons
  • Everything is fine
