I punched the middle hole you see in the photo. The mechanism itself was good. You use it like a stapler. It doesn't hurt at all. I felt nothing and wasn't sure if it was pierced until I checked to be sure. One star off for the earrings themselves. When I put them on they were a beautiful gold color. Now, only three days later, they are almost black as can be seen in the photo. Again, this is an average piercing. Real gold top and bottom earrings. The instructions say you have to wait 10 days to replace the earring so I will wait but I would recommend that you replace the earrings that come with the set with real gold earrings. Alcohol swabs were included to pre-disinfect the ears.
