Just connected CUBE Shadow to my HP Elite X2 12β Tablet PC and did some testing at home. Positive results and overall impression so far. Choose CUBE Shadow from three key features: 1. Very thin (set at 2.5mm). Needs to be attached to the back of my tablet. See fig.2. shutdown warning. While I rarely leave my phone anywhere, I really wish there was something to notify me when I've left my pasta at a restaurant or in someone's office, which I've done in the past.3. Battery with decent battery life. I had a 1st gen TrackR on my keys, everything was fine but I never knew when the battery died so I had to replace it and found I didn't want to bother with it. Results so far: + adjustment. Simple, it worked straight away. Download the CUBE application (Android, Galaxy S8) and hold the button for 5 seconds. on Shadow, and the connection was established quickly. The application automatically applied the firmware update to Shadow (1.07). That's what I like to see, says developers are still learning and improving. + shutdown warning, my main concern. It worked perfectly when I moved more than a space away from the tablet and held the phone in my hands, the application lost contact with Shadow and after about 4-5 seconds it beeped (the melody I set in the application settings). ). , which I don't use so someone knows it's Shadow). Another important shutdown warning function is the setting of safety zones. So you will NOT get any notification when the phone is connected to a specific WiFi SSID. Set this up for my home wifi and everything worked as intended. That way I can keep the app and Shadow on all the time, and when I leave the house with my phone and tablet, the shutdown alarm goes on automatically without me having to think about it or do anything. This seems almost ideal, have to see how it performs over time. + Shadow search from the CUBE app in the house. Again it worked immediately and called Shadow when he was within 30 feet. Not very loud but audible in my quiet house. Beyond 30 feet I had to walk until the app connected to the shadow, indicated by a green circle, and the Find button became active. While connection updates take a few seconds, if you walk slowly and keep an eye on the app's display, you can tell when you're approaching once connected. The map showed the exact address I was testing at the whole time, which is reassuring. While I didn't expect to have to search for my laptop this way when I'm outside, it's nice that my home is a bit spread out. + Call my phone from the shadows. Again, if it was within 30 feet, it worked instantly. Double tap the shadow button and my phone rang and blinked. Couldn't miss. I don't expect to use it often, but it's also nice to have a random phone at home. Caveats: - Had to change phone settings to keep CUBE app running in background and exempt from Android power management. The app prompted me to apply those settings, which was great. Both are fine for me at the moment given the benefits I'm looking for. Time will show power consumption and battery discharge. Your phone and app must be running for CUBE to connect or be found. If you lose your CUBE+ device while your phone is off, you now depend on CUBE's crowdsourced search capability. To date (January 25, 2019) the Android app has only been downloaded 10,000 times, so I'm not expecting great crowdsourced search performance just yet. I hope this is still evolving though, crowdsourced detection covers multiple situations when CUBE and your phone are out of range, meaning someone is walking away with your protected device. I rely more on the cellular connection on my tablet and Microsoft's Find my Device service in case my laptop is stolen. Net and tentatively positive results given my basic need to be warned if I accidentally run away from my trusty pup in the wild. Will be tested on the upcoming journey and updated with new findings. when I accidentally run away from my trusty pup in the wild.
