I bought these to decorate a wall and they work very well. I have painted them with various colors of latex based interior wall paint and they seem to have adapted to it quite well, you can still see the texture of the original starfish through the paint but you cannot see the original colour. They also seem to stay where I put them for the most part, so they're not too heavy to hold in place with hot glue, although the two my cat used as ladders ended up falling off the wall . I found them much more enjoyable to work with than their "real" counterparts as they are less calcareous than real starfish and sand dollars making them much easier to paint, realistic looking but appearing more durable than those real thing.
