I only used the part that needs to be taken out of the groove and it works very well. I'm tired of playing the guessing game of how long to cook steaks and poultry on my gourmet ninja grill. I overcooked my chicken wings before getting this. While they would have been delicious, they would have been a bit dry because I wanted to make sure I cooked them to a safe temperature. This handy little device tells me when they're cooked to a safe temperature and my wings are that good now. I haven't used the part with the cable, but I think it will work too. An added bonus is the price.
