Review on Black YONGNUO YN50mm F1.8 II Auto Focus Lens - Standard Prime for Canon EF Mount Full Frame SLR Cameras by Adam Sterlinski ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's not a bad product, nothing extraordinary.

Value for money lens. Approximately this was the cost of plastic Kenon 50 mm 1.8 until 2022. It was ordered immediately after the appearance in China. Neat packaging. Nice appearance. The lens came with a constant focus error (front). After correcting for this error in the camera, it began to produce sharp pictures that were pleasing to the eye. True, sharpness is very noticeably reduced at the edges of the frame. But for a portrait, this is not so important and even becomes part of the impressive BOKE. Chromatic aberrations periodically spoil the mood, which actually create the second contours of objects. For the price though, this is to be expected. Focusing is relatively slow, sometimes with misses. But, when compared with the previous version, YongNuo have moved forward. As a result, the lens seems no worse than the plastic Kenon 50 mm 1.8 II. He earns his price honestly. But, if your camera does not have the ability to adjust autofocus for a specific lens, then evaluate the risk, because. I don't think it will be possible to calibrate this product.

Pros
  • Reasonable price for a classic 50mm f/1.8 lens. Decent sharpness in the center of the frame. Light weight and compactness as the reverse side of the design and plastic housing. Red ring :) for Kenon is always nice.
Cons
  • A strong drop in sharpness at the edges of the frame. Chromatic aberrations are very annoying. Autofocus misses and slow focus. But in these two parameters there is significant progress compared to the first version.
