Review on LG 34GN850-B UltraGear 34-Inch IPS Ultrawide Screen Monitor with 144Hz Refresh Rate, Tilt and Height Adjustments by John Macovei

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Genie lamp for my three wishes

Another excellent ultrawide monitor, the Asus pg348q (100Hz), I didn't expect to be as impressive as the first initial transition from the usual 16:9 ratio to the ultrawide Masters race. Once you've gotten over the whole "wow factor" of being completely enveloped in constant on-screen real estate, settle down and start nit-picking. I am sure?. It's an unavoidable truth that even diamonds aren't perfect if you look closely. First, the refresh rate. Oh yeah, people will tell you that 100-144Hz isn't a big jump from 60Hz. But that's like saying you don't appreciate a Ferrari because you came with a BMW M3 and not a Honda Civic... after all, it's still a Ferrari. I've noticed that the biggest difference is the response time. . The default mode it works in is "Fast". Do yourself a favor and never mess with that attitude. "Fastest" gives you that 1ms, yes, but you'll encounter severe backward ghosting, which are artifacts left behind by previous frames because your display is out of frame. To be honest, even TN panels suffer from ghosting at this speed, so the fact that this IPS display comes so close is amazing. You will see the biggest improvement in FPS games, this panel has a speed that I have not experienced with any other IPS panel. Compared to my previous Asus monitor, this panel has minimal backlighting. I don't know if that's due to nano-cell technology or if I was just lucky, but my previous monitor had flare in the bottom left corner, which was quite noticeable when the screen brightness was increased. I also appreciate the weight of this monitor, or lack thereof, as it sits more easily on my monitor arm. will not fit the vesa mount as the monitor has a recessed square that you need to attach the included monitor stand to. I use a Revainbasics monitor arm.) Well, I know that was a lot of praise, but here are a few things to consider before spending your monthly rental on this display: - If you need HDR, look elsewhere, this is not true HDR. It just isn't the case - Also for editing, I'd look elsewhere. This display has amazing colors, but I wouldn't call them "accurate". I also see that the curve is an issue. A big plus for gaming as it really makes peripheral vision work easier, but especially when viewing still images the curve is too aggressive and can make images look a bit distorted. I pray nothing goes wrong with this monitor. , but LG isn't known for...let's say it has a reputation for being timely on its warranty claims. If anything, just leave them a 1-star review on their site and they might respond quicker. And it goes without saying, but you need a solid build to run this monitor at 144Hz. I'm currently running a Ryzen 2600 overclocked to 4.1GHz and an RTX 2070 Super. Not a crazy build by any means, but it gets me past the 100Hz mark in most games. DO NOT repeat my mistake and buy high quality monitors before you can control them. Upgrade your system first and buy a monitor when you are sure you can get the most out of it. Most likely, by then the price may go down or a newer model may be released. Also keep in mind that in the world of PC gaming not all games are created equal and you often come across developers running an optimized mess. So don't get discouraged if you can't get 144Hz on your $2000 machine, sometimes it's just bad code. I hope you found this insight helpful, originally I was just going to leave 5 stars with a thumbs up but felt compelled to go into more detail as that is a huge sum you will be paying for a premium experience . Is it worth the money? It really depends on you as an individual. But is this the best 34-inch ultrawide monitor for gaming in early 2020? No doubt.

Pros
  • Stunning screen
Cons
  • nutritional problems. If the monitor's power supply is not working properly, it may cause the display to flicker or turn off.
