Review on πŸ”₯ Enhanced Performance and Style: Introducing the Continental Gatorskin Folding Tire - Black Edition by Dave Neal

Strong but high rolling resistance

Like: Looks good with the All Black Edition. No flashy and bright colors on the side walls. Damn durable. Highly resistant to cuts and punctures. Very easy to mount on my 700c wheels. Holds in corners pretty well. Relatively affordable. Dislikes: This tire is a few millimeters LARGER than most other standard sizes. The 700c x 28 size I chose is 3-4mm larger than the less puncture resistant and lighter tire of the same size. I compared to other tires of the same size measured by professional testers. Gatorskins are slightly larger. As a result, the upper springs of the seat were worn away. It's a very slight friction, maybe less than a millimeter, but still friction. Their puncture resistance also makes them heavier and have a much higher rolling resistance compared to less reinforced road tires. Compared to the Continental GP 5000, the Gatorskin of the same size has almost twice the rolling resistance! It doesn't matter downhill. But as I climbed and accelerated, I definitely felt the difference. On the flat I still feel the need for a little more pedal power to keep the same speed. I would only recommend this to people who commute and need more puncture resistance. Or for those who ride electric road bikes. Otherwise I would have preferred tires with significantly lower rolling resistance.

  • Mostly good, but...
