Review on PetSafe Replacement High Traction Tread Folding by Jen Schuelke

This works - with some modifications. (See attached photo.) My dog can walk down this ramp instead of going down the three steps to the backyard. She is 14 years old and her legs are not as strong as they used to be, also she has arthritis. It was hard to watch her work so hard not to fall on her face as she walked down the stairs. I removed a sheet of black emery and replaced it with scraps of rug from Home Depot. Make sure the rug has some texture or some sort of ridge, as a smooth rug can be too slippery. Another reviewer suggested using carpet tape to attach it to the ramp. This worked great but make sure you have DOUBLE SIDED carpet tape. She finds it easier to grip the carpet than the rough surface of the sandpaper. I also think that the lighter color of the rug is more recognizable to her than black, making her less nervous about using that ramp. She is OK. 35 pounds. I chose to place this ramp just above the 2 steps because using it on the 3 steps looked too steep. Cons: I had no idea she was going to try to take a shortcut and climb over the middle part of the ramp. Before I could stop her, she went overboard, caught her hind legs on the edge, and fell heavily onto the concrete below. She also tries to cut the corner at the bottom of the ramp and stumbles. So I placed a heavy potted plant at the base of a corner so it wouldn't trip over that part of the ramp edge. And I had to put patio chairs along one side of the ramp and on the opposite side of the ramp. I put a crate inside that contained a ramp, plastic and terracotta pots, so it basically walks towards the ramp and can't jump. from the sides. I put a mat at the top of the stairs to give it some grip and I put a rubber mat on the bottom of the ramp in case it falls and it keeps the ramp from moving over the concrete. It doesn't really look pretty but it works and this ramp has made me worry a lot less about it.
