Some of my clients recently told me about the joys of working with two monitors. And after watching them for a few minutes, I was convinced that I needed to do the same setup on my system. Having been a designer for many years, our home is a virtual graveyard of old Macs, monitors, and external devices (you might even find a Zip drive around here somewhere). My newest Mac is a 27 inch iMac with Retina display (angels sing). My goal was to connect a 17 inch circa 2002 Apple monitor to use as a second screen. So I called the helpful folks at Apple and asked them if that was even possible. It turned out to be so! And they offered me to buy their $35 cable to make it happen. To be honest, Apple has gotten a lot of my money over the years, so I've settled on a cheaper brand and prayed for better ones. And I'm very glad I did! This thing screws right into the old monitor and plugs straight into the new one. After about 3 minutes I was ready to go with a new handy second screen. This is great as I can't type little notes and emails - I just leave them on this screen and once they're processed I close them. Save the tree people! Very happy with this economical port and highly recommended.
