Canon's third attempt at an 18-55 kit lens!

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens For those who don't know, this is the third version of Canon's 18-55 kit lens. The first lens was your primary 18-55 EF-S f/3.5-5.6 (the lens I got with my XTi). Then came the same lens, but with a USM motor (very limited availability, probably because Canon had an IS version in development). The third version is 18-55 EF-S f/3.5-5.6 with IS (image stabilization). I have been very happy with this lens so far as I used it as a replacement for my original 18-55 kit lens. with my XTI. IS really helps keep the images sharp when the camera is only used for handheld shooting! Do not use the image stabilizer when your camera is mounted on a tripod! The lens isn't much larger than the original 18-55 kit lens, so if you had a previous non-IS kit lens it's a really nice upgrade, mainly because of the image stabilization. My only criticisms of this lens are that I wish it had a quieter and faster USM (ultrasonic motor) and full-time focus (available on other Canon lenses where you can focus manually without toggling the auto/manual switch too have to). I also want the front lens not to rotate while focusing so I can use a polarizing filter with it. However, given the low price of this lens, you really can't complain too much! My only concern is that Canon will re-release the 18-55 lens (fourth version?) and add a USM motor with image stabilization in place? Yes, it's possible that Canon will release a fourth version of the 18-55 lens that will be available with new entry-level DSLRs in the future and will likely be called the "Canon Digital Rebel XRi & XR" (after the XTi/XR). XT and XSi/XS?) . This lens is now a welcome addition to my lens collection, which I enjoy using!
