Pros: This is a nice improvement over the Bluelab Combo Gauge. It's smaller, fits comfortably in your hand, and calibrates in seconds with a single pH buffer and EC standard. can take 8 seconds. Cons: The display is large and readable, but 2/3 of it is reserved for calibration instructions, which are practically unneeded. It's a little annoying, I wonder if they could use it to read pH and EC at the same time. It also has a "calibration check" feature which I don't see why not just calibrate, it doesn't require any extra effort. The Cal-Check solution is expensive, I see no reason to buy it. EC is displayed with a resolution of 2 decimal places, which is nice. pH shows 1 decimal place, not so nice. I was expecting a higher resolution but didn't read the specs carefully enough. This is fine for hydroponics, but there are two places where you can mix the nutrients more precisely. The temperature reading may be off by 2° but I can't say for sure because both of my working thermometers match the gauge, my lab thermometer reads 2°. Above. Maybe the lab was wrong. If you're looking for a replacement for the blulab combo meter, you won't regret purchasing the 9813.
