After struggling to open my chain without tools, I ended up ruining my missing link by trying to pry the link with needle nose pliers to open. I reluctantly bought an opener and lock (and a set of 6 missing links). I will say that the opener is more important than the closer. Closing the chain is easy enough by applying chain tension. What can I say? Both the opener and the closer worked great. So simple and yet so perfect. Hopefully over the years they will open and close enough chains to justify the small investment.
