Review on Bule Yarn Winder Umbrella Swift by Doris Tran

Works well! Very helpful. It spins smoothly, resulting in a clean, even yarn cake, good for skeins.

The first assembly was a bit tricky just because I've never seen one of these in person and the bracket needs to fit the twine umbrella in a special way so you can attach it to a edge of a table or desk. The yarn umbrella has a "button" that you can press to make it easier to open and close as needed, keeping it open to the diameter you want. The umbrella itself is not attached to the winding mechanism, so must be rotated by hand to wrap yarn around it. It works well! The winder's body is made of plastic, apparently some high-impact material, and it appears to have vinyl gears inside that help keep it fairly quiet and smooth. I used it with #10 cotton crochet thread and it turned out a really nice flat cake. Especially if the thread is held to give it some tension before passing it through the "eyelet" which then feeds it to the bobbin winder. The inclination of the winder ensures even wind distribution. It took me a few gusts of wind to get used to the mechanism's action and then everything ran smoothly and I knitted 1000 meters of yarn in just a few minutes. The working end of the "cake" can be pulled out from either the inside or the outside at the user's option. Or it can be pulled at both ends for special knitting techniques. Yarn Umbrella is very useful when I need to unwind the skeins of knitting yarn into organized skeins so I can prep and then dye them. All in all, this skein maker and yarn winder is a very useful tool for both tying skeins and making skeins for dyeing. I received this item in exchange for my honest and unbiased rating and review.
