Warped boards won't fit

I was looking forward to this after making a spooky book alley for Halloween. Unfortunately, the quality wasn't very good from the start. The planks were unevenly sized, making it nearly impossible to level them to create a foundation due to the large gaps between the planks. That was the second thing that bothered me the most, the first thing that bothered me the most was trying to stick paper on the boards. Take old Elmer's glue, which is good for most things, but if we stick a very thin sheet of paper to a solid structure, you get ripples. Try to smooth it out and you will have tears. Assuming your disappointment is better than mine and you want to move on to the next piece, good luck because the glue will wick into very thin colored paper and create a generally awkward appearance. I know I'll get comments saying I'm using too much glue, but I actually use very little glue and I spread it out very carefully and let it dry halfway before gluing the paper. According to other people's instructions and comments. Unfortunately it still didn't work. I was so mad I threw the whole damn thing in the trash.
