Warning! Quick start does not include an aquarium cycle

I've run numerous tests with the new quarantine aquarium settings, trying both fish and non-fish cycles with 2-4ppm ammonia. I've tried API Quickstart, Sea-chem Stability, and Tetra "Bacteria Cleanup". After about $300 worth of dead fish, I've come to the conclusion that these products are a scam and don't cycle aquariums any faster or more reliably than using nothing at all. They definitely don't do it right away or even within a week as advertised. Keep in mind that I'm very meticulous about handling so I don't accidentally infest aquariums like most people do. Those who report success probably got their bacteria from somewhere else without realizing it, like the fish they added. It is not safe to feed fish with or without these products. Don't even attempt this unless you're willing to test the waters twice a day and take emergency action if necessary. Ammonia levels in a new aquarium usually rise slowly and can be reduced with water changes and chemicals, but nitrite levels can spike within a few hours at certain points in the cycle, killing fish instantly. These products do nothing to prevent this. These products claim to be a safety net, but they are not. This is a scam. Even if they contained live bacteria, the cycle would still be dangerous for the fish. Do yourself a favor and spend 2-3 weeks achieving a proper fish free cycle by adding ammonia and seeding with gravel or filter media from an established pathogen free tank. If this is not available, the bacteria will eventually invade from the atmosphere, it may only take a few weeks.
