They work as advertised, allowing USB-C devices to run at reduced USB 2.0 speeds. However, if the device to be connected (e.g. an HD 60 fps streaming camera) does not support the speed requirement, even if it is connected to a USB 3.0 port. I had to get a connector clearly labeled as USB-C to USB 3.0 before my device stopped complaining that it was running at a slower speed than its rated speed.
