This past summer I finished installing a central air unit in my home, my uncle and I did it ourselves. Unfortunately we ended up finishing near the end of summer but that’s aside the point. My neighbor had done a CAC install in their home the year prior and I noticed during the fall that he had a nice cover over his condenser unit that sits outside so of course I wanted one as well. I started doing a lot of research and ultimately came to the conclusion that these types of covers (the covers that only cover the top of the unit or the top half of the unit) are the best to use.My neighbor has a cover that completely insulated and protects the entire unit. Evidently this is not what you want. The reasoning from what I read is that you want to allow your unit to breathe, good air circulation during the fall and winter time is critical to allow any moisture to escape, allowing air circulation also helps in preventing vermin and rodents from making a home inside of the covered unit during the winter time. The most important part of the unit to cover is the top, to prevent leaves rain hail and other debris from entering and sitting inside the unit.I made a video and uploaded it showing how I installed my cover on my unit. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who has CAC and doesn’t already have a cover for their unit.Take care of your stuff and it will take care of you!
