Good stuff...better with it than without.

I have used different brands of this product and they were all about the same...it adheres well and the backing can be difficult to remove. This is a 20 mil thick product and I have used it on doors, windows and some places where paneling meets walls. There is a thicker version with a foil finish...40 mil...which is great for roofing applications such as vent panels, flashing and anywhere the roof meets a vertical wall. A thicker product is also good for eliminating frost problems on the ledges, although it can be quite expensive... I found a good deal on an auction site for a couple of large rolls. I read the instructions and installed this stuff accordingly, but was disappointed with the results. I recently added an enclosed porch; wrap it with household foil; cut out the windows and fold the film; shaped; installed the windows and then taped the tape so it adhered to the vinyl window edge and house wrap. I had drafts and water leaks so I removed part of the siding and found the water got behind the house siding and seeped in... some water but any amount is too much. I undid the siding and pulled out the windows, but this time I taped the tape directly to the OSB and attached some overlapping staples to it... the membrane seals the nails/staples in place and also seals the nails going right through them go like a J-Channel installation. Now there are no more leaks and I will continue to apply directly to windows/doors and structure. I've also had good success installing my rooftop wood stove along with a skylight...and used a few tiered applications. I can see that there is no UV light in it. So if it ever gets some sun, use a product lined with aluminum foil. Depending on usage it's often better to buy a wider roll and cut it in half lengthways and I have cut a 6" roll in half and found that a 3" piece works about like a 4 inch standard width. Either way, good material and real leak/draft protection and if you don't use this or something similar you're likely to run into problems sooner or later.
