2006 Toyota Corolla Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Wow!** Installation**: First remove the contents of the glove box and set aside. With a fully open glove box, there are plastic stops molded into the plastic on either side of the glove box. - Squeeze the glove box until the plastic stops pass. - The glove box is now held down by the hinge, pull up and towards the roof of the car to remove the hinge, one side at a time and when free lift the black "soft open" -Mechanism on it to release it from the plastic channel it slides into. .- You may have to lower yourself to see the black door rectangle above the AC fan. It's held in place by two simple tabs that need to be squeezed together to release. Behind it is the air filter. Pull it out slowly to avoid spilling all the dust inside the blower. Pay attention to the air flow indicator on the filter. Install the new filter as indicated on the new filter and put everything back in place. **Installation Impressions** Since the air now has to flow through the activated carbon, some people would expect a cleaner air feel, but it probably didn't make much of a difference in terms of smell. It's good to know that particles that would normally get into your air conditioner are now blocked. Since the air in your car needs to be clean anyway, this product is more about keeping the inside of your air conditioner clean so mold doesn't grow inside where it can't be clean. Keep carpets vacuumed and don't allow a lot of leaves to collect near the wipers, as cars can suck in outside air from this area. (If you smell a wet rag when you turn the A/C on, it's probably due to moisture in the A/C. This may require special cleaning.) I use these types of activated carbon for all of my cabin air filters and it seems worth it, about an extra buck (good prices here at Revain compared to retail). I am completely satisfied with the product and judging by how dirty the old filters are in my cars every time they are changed, clean air in the AC costs $10-12. It's hard to estimate how often they need to be changed, starting with every oil change or every 6 months to get a feel for it. If you drive through a lot of dust it can last less than 6 months but I end up changing mine every year or so. Enjoy!

Pros
  • Prevents harmful particles from entering the engine and increasing engine wear
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
