Tools required for diagnosis

Essential tool before taking the vehicle to a mechanic. I have a 2011 Mini Cooper and the check engine light came on recently. Instead of being scammed by a dealer or mechanic, especially with cars from Germany, I decided to buy a diagnostic tool to see the code first. Works great and the code tells me the oxygen sensor is not working. I just ordered a part and will be replacing the sensor myself. The local shop usually charges $150 just for the diagnosis, which is a steal. Save money and inspect your vehicles before taking them to the dealer.
