Replaced T4 Halogen

I needed to replace a 100W T4 DC bayonet-base halogen bulb in a desk lamp with a dimmer switch. I didn’t want halogen again because it runs too hot. My first choice would have been LED, but I couldn’t find a right-size LED bulb that was bright enough. I concluded that xenon was the best alternative. The Bulbrite KX60CL/DC fitted without problems. The difference in format (T3 for the Bulbrite vs. T4 for the old bulb) did not matter. The Bulbrite runs less hot than the halogen (though still too hot to touch). The desk lamp has a glass shade that mounts over the bulb, probably for safety to prevent contact with the hot halogen bulb. I left off the shade after installing the Bulbrite because heat is less of a concern now and the shade reduces the light. The Bulbrite dims smoothly. At the highest setting, it is less bright than the halogen (as expected at 60W vs. 100W), but it provides just enough light for reading.

Pros
  • ‎Bulbrite
Cons
  • Price: The Bulbrite KX20CL/DC Double-Contact Bayonet Base (BA15D) Light Bulb is relatively expensive compared to other LED light bulb options. This can be seen as a deterrent for many customers who are looking for an affordable, high-performance light bulb

Bought one to replace my old KX2000 bulb. Exploded (!) within 3 hours of being installed. Same light fixture the old one lasted years in.
