But it seems to have worked very well.

I would not fill in the middle part on both sides. It's fairly populated with three tiers of flash drives. It will probably take another layer, but I wouldn't stress the outer zipper that much. Small pockets and zippered compartments are strong and secure. Discs don't fly out. I only use it for flash drives. No cables, hard drives, headphones or batteries.
