Review on πŸ“· Fotodiox Pro Black Camera Hand Grip for Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II Mirrorless Micro Four-Thirds Digital Camera with Battery Access - All Metal by Duane Mann

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great grip, solves all my Olympus case issues!

This little guy is definitely one of the best Oly EM5mkII grips. I've always found that without some form of grip the EM5mkII just doesn't feel well in my hand, my fingers just clench a bit. So I bought some pens. I first bought an Olympus grip to fit the battery (I didn't buy an extra battery compartment, just a grip that fits between the case and the extra battery compartment) and it worked fine. This is a fantastic guy and great when you put on some big lenses like 12-40 2.8 or 40-150 2.8. But it was a bit overkill for normal outings, especially with some of the smaller prime lenses. Then I got a wooden grip here on Amazon from a guy who makes them to order, can't remember the name. While it was a nice grip, it was never the most comfortable. So I finally bought this guy. I was initially skeptical because of its low price, but I'm happy to say that it's the best. It's all metal, feels solid, and you have access to the battery compartment to swap out! That's great! The grip extends just enough to give you a solid purchase without being as bulky as the Olympus. It really is in the Goldilocks zone. It's even big enough to comfortably work with a 12-40 2.8! Ever since I bought this grip it has stayed with my camera. However, it does have one flaw, not the major one but worthy of attention, and the reason why it doesn't get the full 5 stars. I attach it to the camera via a tripod mount (don't worry, it also has a tripod mount so the tripod shoe or strap will still work) and it's flush with the body except for a small bar sticking out on the front left. keep the camera steady. Unfortunately, a small bar on the front isn't enough to keep this guy 100% chained to the camera. I found that sometimes when holding it properly, I could feel the grip curve slightly away from the camera. Not enough to freak me out, but it's annoying because you suddenly feel like you're holding on to two separate things instead of one solid body. The manufacturer could have easily fixed this by adding one or two more spacers on the right side of the case, front and back. Then there would never be bending that way. But that's really just a nitpick, it's a great grip and if you find the EM5mkII too small for your hands it's the perfect complement. I would also like to add that I did NOT receive this product, I bought it for myself, I just really like it. It's not one of those fakes that says "I got this for free in response to an honest review." I paid full price for it and it's $30 of what it cost.
