Search the web for "chinese multitester guides" and you can find a manual from circtuitspecialists dot com. Without guidance, it is difficult to understand the details. IR only decodes Hitachi format, others indicate that it accepts IR but does not decode it. The battery seems to drain quickly, but I haven't played with it too much, it's a simple battery inside, or you can use a USB battery. The timeout can be set via jumpers on the circuit board (manual required). Short press turns it on, long press can turn it off.
