Well-pigmented crayons based on natural oil - a good gift!

HUEEYES 48 Colored Pencils are actually oil based, eh stated in their description. They are layered in 48 colors on two trays in a printed metal tin, along with a double-sided color theory wheel and a small coloring book by Joanna Basford (which may vary. Although these pens do not compare in color saturation to expensive professional colored pencils, they may have they actually have quite decent pigmentation that is quite vibrant with enough layers Oil and wax pencils with pigment in them Tattooed on the side of pencils refers to the colored coating on the end of pencils to indicate the color of the pencil As per the product description stated, this is to ensure that the coating of the colored pencils is free of toxins, so that they are safe for small children. To be honest, the finishes end up looking a bit chipped, with discoloration and blistering on the ends of most pencils. This leads me to believe that this ink has probably worn off the pens over time. Oil-based pencils have slightly more durable tips, so they don't need to be sharpened as often and the pencil itself doesn't take as long to get used to. Applying color has a smooth but "dry" feel that differs from the creamy, smooth feel of wax-based sticks. To really blend these pens and get vibrant colors requires multiple coats of lighter color pressure to build up the pigment. Wax crayons can often get very rich colors in multiple layers if they are pressed firmly. And while wax-based paints have a waxy sheen, I find that oil-based pencils have a shinier sheen to the finished drawing. These pencils are well sharpened and the wood was not resilient or loose. One of my pencils broke the tip and one broke the lead while sharpening, but for the most part I had no trouble using and sharpening my pencils. Color overlay was smooth, but some colors in the blue area had very light scratches. All in all, with the added perks of a color wheel and coloring booklet, this makes a pretty nice gift. especially for a young person or an aspiring art student. And for the price they offer with everything included these pencils really are a good budget pencil option.

Pros
  • 5-1/2" color wheel made of laminated cardboard with a plastic cover. It is used extensively when you are mentally drawing and deciding what colors to use in your coloring pages.
Cons
  • Not Safe
