My son is 7 years old and is only now starting to care about "looking cool". He scolds me when I try to get him to wear a coat in the cold winter months. This vest was a lifesaver! My son wears long sleeves under a vest, and then the vest itself keeps him warm! Bonus: I don't look like a bad mom because my son doesn't wear a jacket. You must choose your battles! All in all I can definitely recommend this vest. It's a bit big for my 4 foot, 68 lb 7 year old, but we love it so it can be layered underneath.
