With an official BMW cable, the phone can be recognized as an iPod. This is a universal USB cable with analog AUX audio. The phone charges via USB while the AUX mode allows one to listen to the device. If you want to use things like steering wheel controls to skip tracks, pause, etc., you'll need to treat yourself to a different cable. Calling it "BMW compatible USB" is a little disingenuous as it is not my understanding. The included audio filter shouldn't be necessary for most.
