Review on Rugged Ridge 18021.02 Heavy Duty Steering Box Brace for 1976-1986 Jeep CJ5/CJ7/CJ8 Scrambler by Dave Calabro

Durable and perfect fit

Installed on my 1984 CJ7. It is a robust unit with a strong weld on the end of the mounting bracket and a strong zinc coating on the clips on the steering box end. The tube also feels very heavy, although you can't look inside to determine the wall thickness. It came with two bolts, nuts and lock washers for the bracket end and bolts, washers and nuts for the clamp end. I only used one screw on the end of the bracket where it attaches to the frame because it also uses one of the bracket's mounting screws. My frame also had a flare nut in the second unused hole. So I didn't need any of the included nuts for this purpose. I just removed the rear strut hanger bolt, installed this unit and reinstalled the bolt I removed and one of the new ones that came with the unit. I left them loose at first and then attached a tie around the gear box and those bolts. After all the screws are in place, just tighten them securely. Solid, perfect fit and thick.
