Can sharpen your knives but some usability issues

This is a good general purpose fixed angle sharpener. It fits standard bricks and has a large flat area on the brick holder to measure the angle. It has some features that it can work well with if you are willing to work with it. It is designed to quickly fold from side of the blade to the other by pulling on a spring-loaded mount. The problem is that the C-clamp that holds it to the table isn't very good and there isn't a rubber pad on the bottom to protect the table. I added rubber and pressed it against my granite countertop and it just wouldn't hold. Every time I pull the tensioner to flip the blade, it comes off the rack. This can work well on a wooden table top where the clip could cut into the wood. Otherwise, you'll have to use a second hand to hold it on the counter. Also, the blade clamp doesn't hold the blade as tight, even when the screws are tightened. I think the problem is the shape of the inner surface of the clamp. So when you pull it, you have to reach around the knife and pull on the tool, not the knife itself. My knife has slipped in the blade clamp several times. Also the clip that holds the badge is too wide. If you're sharpening kitchen knives that's fine, but with pocket knives you can't sharpen the blade tip because the blade clamp gets in the way. The rock rubs on the clamp itself. Finally, I don't like flimsy bars that hold a solid angle. It's not as ribbed as the other design I bought to replace this one and it also came loose a couple of times during use. So if you're willing to work around these quirks, your knives will definitely get sharp. I recommend diamond stones over natural stones because they are the same thickness from grit to grit. As a reminder, basically ALL of these sharpeners leave burrs. So if you want your knife to be very sharp, the last step is to use a sling.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
