Newbie impressed!

I have had several lockable pocket knives in my life for several years. A tanner has accompanied me for more than ten years. Over the past few months I've found that I've been completely neglecting blade maintenance the whole time. I use them strictly for home use, for work, and I've also had the opportunity to use them as "outdoor hobbyists". someday! Some of my knives have become badly damaged and dull over the years. some are just boring. I have a "professional" motorized ceramic kitchen knife sharpener and in my desperation I tried to use it on my old Gerber. No, the thick blade barely fits into the slots, and even then the original bevel must be too crooked. Looks like he tried to grind down the secondary bevel. I know it cuts at 20 degrees. After researching and observing the sharpening methods, from sandpaper to whetstones, whetstones, and diamond sharpeners, I settled on all of my general sharpening methods. After trying to mimic the methods I've observed, I can't believe it, but I've already had HUGE results! My oldest tanner with the most damage, pitting, dulling, etc. I worked 10x slower than anyone and was able to repair the blade, remove the pitting, and sharpen the blade properly on this stone. I've never used a coarser stone to "fix the edges". He made it cut through paper evenly, through a full blade with no jagged tears. I don't have a proper way to cut the bevel yet, so I made several horizontal strokes to sharpen the blade, alternating until the bevel was almost gone, and meanwhile using my work mat instead of a leather belt until I could hol you one. He can't shave his arm hair very well yet, but I'm sure I can get to this point until I have more proper bevel removal equipment and work on my technique. I watched a video of a guy sharpening a blade on this stone and he had such good technique that he was able to shave the hair off his arm right away. I'll be there! Meanwhile a fantastic bench stone! DON'T BUY CHEAP DIAMONDS! They will not be made properly if the diamond is not ionized into metal but simply glued on with glue, causing it to completely wear and wear away over time. In comparison, the stone lasts for many years!
