I usually prewash fabrics before making a quilt to prevent it from bleeding into the finished quilt and to prevent shrinkage of the finished quilt prevent product. Other quilters find it easier to work with unwashed fabric and wash the quilt after it's finished, so I decided to give it a try. This particular quilt was from a set and included multiple fabrics in black, red and dark green, as well as gold and cream. So after reading on a quilting blog that people use color pickers when washing new quilts, I bought these. These sheets nailed it, as evidenced by the color they've matched. I put 2 in the wash and when I saw their color I put the machine on the second rinse and added another one. There was no color on this sheet and the comforter looked good when dry. Manually soak it by turning it and doing the same in the rinse cycles.) I've used these sheets for other washes as well when I couldn't remember if the red or dark garment had been previously washed. I intend to keep some of these sheets handy from now on.
