You need to insert the speaker/microphone connector at a 90 degree angle and then twist it counterclockwise
When I connected the speaker/microphone for the first time, I couldn't transmit. You need to connect it so that the cable goes to the back of the radio. Press firmly and then twist so the cable runs to the top of the radio. This will secure the cable in place. Hope that helps.
