I used a proprietary protein/superfood powder from a gym I attend. I found it amazing but too expensive to buy for everyday use at $30 for a 10 day supply. So I'm experimenting and trying to replicate this product at a more affordable scale as much as possible. I was drawn to this powder because it contains almost the same plant-based protein blend I was looking for, plus a bunch of superfoods that I was keen to see as well. Two sought-after ingredients were missing: Maca root and Moringa leaf. So I bought individual packets of these powders along with this Amazing Grass Protein Superfood Powder with a rich chocolate flavor. The protein powder I was used to at my gym had some cocoa in it, but no sweetener at all. I would mix this powder with 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 banana, and 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries. So my sweetness would come primarily from the banana. However, I have noticed that the Amazing Grass blend lists sweetener (Stevia) as one of the ingredients. I would have preferred the unsweetened/unflavored variety, but unfortunately the less expensive option was only the smaller 12 oz. I really wanted the largest size, both for economic reasons and to avoid having to redeem the goods so quickly. The only 22.9 ounce larger variety was chocolate flavored so I decided to give it a try. Today I made my first shake using Amazing Grass Powder and two other supplements using the same recipe I've always used. with banana etc. The first time I noticed the sweetness of the cocktail. It seemed so incredibly sweet to me that it almost made him uncomfortable. I'm just not used to this sweetness in a protein shake. However, I did experiment with adding about 1/2 cup of water and when I tried again it was significantly better and much more drinkable and also less thick. So this will be my recipe for the future. When I run out of chocolate (after 17 days) I buy the original unsweetened/unflavored variety in the smaller size just to compare the flavor and sweetness and then decide which variety I prefer. eat a lot of sweet or processed foods, you may like the level of sweetness of powdered chocolate and think I'm crazy when I complain that it's too sweet. But for people like me who usually eat very cleanly and mostly avoid sugar and sweets, and/or those used to unsweetened/unflavored protein blends, you'll probably find this flavor too sweet if not water. a little down.
