Review on Houdini 8-Inch Stainless Winged Corkscrew: Efficient Wine Opener for Easy Uncorking by Jennifer Schmeisser

I fixed it after two months of use. basically my wife. She has small hands with mild arthritis. She finds it difficult to hold both the neck of the bottle and the black plastic cap with one hand and screw the corkscrew into the cork with the other. Also when removing the cork, hold the wings as you twist the corkscrew. Need big hands (mine) and some strength. She prefers the simpler "waiter's corkscrew" which has a basic corkscrew, pretty foil, and two-tiered gimmicks. So I downgraded it from 5 to 3. My first review is below. ------------------ After reading some other reviews on here I thought I might have gotten a different product. • Black plastic is just black plastic. This is not a coated product and appears to be well made. The thinnest towards the end is about 0.12 inch and is much thicker where it holds the cork. • The metal "wings" of the corkscrew and the propeller are also well finished. No unnecessary sloppiness or frankly cheap materials. • Some of the corkscrew on mine leaks a little (it's not centered), but not enough to affect its operation. • The "bottle opener" part used to twist the corkscrew is oval, approximately 2 inches x 1-3 inches. 8" x 2/3" and is covered with rubber material. Probably not to slip? In any case, it is relatively easy to turn a corkscrew. Probably the biggest plus is that it only requires one 'pull' of the wings compared to similar types I've used. On others, after a hit, I had to reach between the end of the corkscrew and the neck of the bottle to squeeze the wings again. Ouch. Only one such "push” is required for this. (Hope that makes sense.) It seems easy to use - my wife had no problems - but I think it's because the gasket is leaking. And the corkscrew works fine. It's quite large - takes up space in the box. Otherwise there are no particular problems with it. For 11 dollars? Good business. 5 Stars.
